The Old Shack
11 inches x 14 inches acrylic on cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

Here we have an old run down shack in a field of dandelions and weeds. There is a wood or a hedgerow in the back ground. I used the lines to focus the attention on the shack really well in this one. The darkness of the shack adds an air of mystery. You almost expect a Hollywood style jump scare at any moment.

I saw them when I was out for a walk. I decided to do them as a watercolor like I did the last one. Seems more suited to watercolor than acrylics for some reason.

I was at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas along the San Antonio river taking pictures of ducks and herons when this guy came up to say "hi". He is a diamondback water snake and not poisonous. I looked at it for a while and decided it wasn't so bad. Here is "Fantasy Island" featuring shallows over reefs. And cliffs. And palm trees. Needs a shark or two, doesn't it?

Banana and 2 Mangoes
9x12 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
Here is a still life in watercolor. My son was going to make banana and mango smoothies, but I stole his ingredients long enough to paint this. This painting looks very similar to my "Apples on a Plate" painting, but that was acrylic on a linen panel. Guess that means I have developed my own style?

Apples on a Plate
8x10 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Now you can see what I mean. Look a lot alike don't they?

Here Be Dragon
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

So, there was this challenge to take a boring, ho hum photo and paint something interesting. The idea was to make something with a bit of fun, so I added a dragon's tail coming out the front door. Also, by the graffiti is a paint can, a hat, and a shoe. Hmm, wonder what happened?

Tuesday, July 2, 2019
