Pretty Flowers
8 inch x 10 inch acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

Here are some pretty flowers painted with acrylics. These are some simple roses in a field. I almost kept the background as a abstract. It was pretty cool, but I painted the flowers on anyway.

The Usual Suspect
12 inch x 12 inch acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

The funny thing is that I started playing chess when I was 6 and have been playing tournament level chess since the mid-70s. I became a master of the game a long time ago and play all the time, but this is the first chess themed painting I've done. Here is "The Usual Suspect". I'll let you figure it out.

Cape Linn
11 inch x 14 inch acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

A nice seascape painting of a cliff lined point stretching into the ocean. There is a city in the background in front of distant mountains. Linn means "cliff" by the way and is from Scottish Gaelic and its application of the name is my invention.

I had to do an orange sky painting in watercolor just to see the effect. Interesting.

Tree Down the Street 5
9x12 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

Another crepe myrtle painting. I think this is the third one from this year. I can't help it. They are everywhere here. This group is in a yard about four blocks from where I live. I saw them when I was out for a walk. I decided to do them as a watercolor like I did the last one. Seems more suited to watercolor than acrylics for some reason.

Diamondback Water Snake
9x12 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
I was at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas along the San Antonio river taking pictures of ducks and herons when this guy came up to say "hi". He is a diamondback water snake and not poisonous. However, like most water snakes, he is perpetually grumpy and does bite. I decided to go the other way.

Fantasy Island
16x20 acrylic on stretched canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

I painted this back in March and then put it in the box of rejects. I was pulling out other paintings yesterday to be pre-varnished and this came out. I looked at it for a while and decided it wasn't so bad. Here is "Fantasy Island" featuring shallows over reefs. And cliffs. And palm trees. Needs a shark or two, doesn't it?

Mariska Veres
20x16 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

Another portrait of a rock goddess. This one is Mariska Veres  of the band Shocking Blue. This painting actually took me about 3 weeks off and on. Now to decide who to do next. Thinking about doing Jinx Dawson. Or maybe Grace Slick? We'll see.

Banana and 2 Mangoes
9x12 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
Here is a still life in watercolor. My son was going to make banana and mango smoothies, but I stole his ingredients long enough to paint this. This painting looks very similar to my "Apples on a Plate" painting, but that was acrylic on a linen panel. Guess that means I have developed my own style?

Apples on a Plate

Now you can see what I mean. Look a lot alike don't they?

Two Hydrangeas
9x12 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

I tried a totally different approach to painting these hydrangeas from the ones I've done before. A lot more brushwork this way.

So here is another painting from the our visit to Pearsall Park in San Antonio, Texas last spring. I decided to do this one as a watercolor instead of an acrylic painting.

Settler's Hut
12x12 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

This is an old homesteader's cabin from the early 1800s. This cabin is one of several at the Botanical Gardens in San Antonio, Texas. This is another painting from one of my excursions with my youngest son this past spring.

Here Be Dragon
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

So, there was this challenge to take a boring, ho hum photo and paint something interesting. The idea was to make something with a bit of fun, so I added a dragon's tail coming out the front door. Also, by the graffiti is a paint can, a hat, and a shoe. Hmm, wonder what happened?

Tree Down the Street #4
9x12 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

There are so many Crepe Myrtles in bloom around here you can't go 20 feet without seeing another one. Here are two in a yard near my house. I painted them as a watercolor and kept it loose. My fourth painting in the series of trees around where I live.
