Sailboat 2
12x12 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
I intended to paint a landscape but nothing grabbed me. Mountains, waterfalls, trees, all the things I like to paint but no spark. So, looking for ideas I started looking at pictures of ocean scenes then, of course, boats. I started looking at ships, then boats of different types and landed on a page of sailboats. I liked a bunch of them and kind of morphed a few into this painting. You just never know what is going to grab and light you up.

Cactus Trio
8x10 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

This was a rather aggravating painting for such a simple scene.First, I tried it as a watercolor and that attempt was a disaster. So, I switched to an acrylic painting and had even more issues. It almost never got to be a finished painting. But, here it is. I give you "Cactus Trio" in all of its irritating glory.

Hooded Crow
8x10 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

Way back I collected a bunch of pictures of crows and ravens to paint but never got around to them. I started looking at them and decided to paint this guy. This painting came out really nice.

Zora
12x16 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940
I figured I would do another portrait and decided to do one of Zora Cock of the band Blackbriar. Maybe I should do a series of portraits of women in rock? Anyway, I picked Zora because of her fabulous red hair. I always did have a weakness for redheads. Perhaps my next portrait might be Doro Pesch of Warlock or  possibly Jinx from Coven.

Stevie
16x20 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

This is a impressionist style portrait of Stevie Nicks. At least, that's who I was trying to paint. This painting is pretty awesome, actually. Even though I have put it up for sale, I might just keep it for myself.

Bounding Maine
8x10 watercolor on paper
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
I was having a little fun with watercolors. I watched a tutorial by Alexandra Gabor and decided try a painting using some of her ideas. And just play around a bit, too. So, I created "Bounding Maine". Who says you can't have fun with it?

Spring Beauty
12x12 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
This is a pallet knife painting of a five bladed white and magenta flower. I went for a more loose, impressionistic, almost abstract style on this one.

Yellow Hydrangea
10x8 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
Was in a floral mood and was looking at pictures of flowers on my phone just killing time. Decided to paint a hydrangea because, why not? Besides I think they are beautiful flowers. So, I painted a yellow one. I actually painted it as a watercolor first, but did not like the result. So, did it again with acrylics and voila! Really like the yellow against the blue-purple.

Tree Down the Street #3
12x9 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

Here is another painting of trees in my neighborhood. This tree was covered in white flowers, so I had to paint it. I like the stop sign, hydrant, and little rose bush that add interest.

Leon Creek
12x9 acrylic on linen canvas over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

Here is another painting from my photo shoot I did in Pearsall Park awhile back. This is of Leon Creek at a place where you could make your way down from the path to the water. I like this because of the tree on the left. Blocks the eye from moving out of the painting. I used a glazing medium to mix with the paint for the water, so it has a bit of a shine.

Sail Boat

This is another watercolor. Here, I've painted a sailboat sailing along a wooded shore under a blue sky.

Sea Stacks
11x14 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

I've been up and down the coasts of several parts of the world and I have seen these rock islands all over. I guess they are called sea stacks, or so I've heard. But they are always interesting. I remember many covered in seals and seal lions along the west coast of the US. Anyway, here is "Sea Stacks" showing two such rock islands, but no seals.

Orange Sky
8x10 acrylic on cotton canvas panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

This was an experiment. I wanted to try the technique that seems to be the rage on Youtube where you just put paint directly on the canvas and spread it around with the pallet knife. Of course, you have to know where you want what color. I have seen several Youtube demos of people painting abstract using this technique. So, "Orange Sky" is the result. Did ok.

Anthurium
10x8 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at:https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940
This painting was for a plant in a pot painting challenge. I based it on another photo I took at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens.

Garden Gate
16x20 acrylic on linen over wood panel
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

This is the entrance to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. The actual entry is just of canvas to the right. The building you see on the right is the gift shop. When I visited the other day, I was intrigued by the bright yellow green bushes along the vine covered retaining wall. And the fire hydrant gave the scene an interesting contrast. As does the bit of the building peeking through the trees behind the wall. I am already working on some other paintings from this excursion. I took more than 300 pictures, so should get some nice ideas.

Blue Vases
16x20 acrylic on stretched cotton canvas

Playing around with the transparent glass technique and monochrome. Here is three glass vases with light from a window behind them. Interesting effect.

Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/gregory-cross-8940

A recent trip to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens netted about 300 photos of plants. Here is the first painting from that excursion. This is a red bromeliad growing among plants and ferns. There were also yellow ones, which may be a future painting.

The Green Pond
11x14 acrylic on stretched linen canvas
Buy it at: https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/gregory-cross-8940

I thought the green water in the reference photo was interesting so I painted "The Green Pond" I also like the dark black tree on the right which serves as the focal point. And yes, it was black in the photo.
